Functional Medicine Improves Health Related Quality of Life. Medical Study

by | Nov 1, 2019 | Functional Medicine, Functional Medicine, Home/Blog

One of the most respected medical journals, The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has just published a study concluding functional medicine significantly improved patient health outcomes, compared to a traditional medical care setting.

Of course this is not news for anyone working in Functional Medicine, but it’s extremely exciting to start to see this being reflected in the medical literature.

Our conventional system is world class and absolutely brilliant for acute care issues such as life saving surgeries, infections and so on. If you have a broken leg, myocarditis or are having a heart attack, you don’t need to meditate and eat better (at least not in that moment that can come later), you need to get yourself to a hospital ASAP.

One of the areas that functional medicine is successful in is chronic, lifestyle mediated health issues. These include autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, cardiometabolic issues such as diabetes and fertility.

Functional Medicine is not a replacement for the existing model, but an expansion of it. An evolution that allows for successful outcomes for many more people. And that is so satisfying to me.
